Fillies freshman throws no-hitter vs. Three Rivers

MORRISON, Ill. — Freshman pitcher Lauren Pannier threw a no-hitter and struck out 13 Sterling Newman batters Tuesday, leading Morrison to an 8-0 victory in Three Rivers Conference softball.

Kaitlyn Finneran led the Morrison offense with two hits, one a home run, and four runs batted in. Chelsea Eads stayed hot at the plate, too, hitting a double and driving in two runs.

The win improved Morrison’s record to 14-3, 10-1 in conference play.

Panthers top Storm

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Savannah Mettler tossed a four-hitter and Erie/Prophetstown used a pair of two-run innings to beat Bureau Valley 4-1 on Tuesday in Three Rivers Conference softball.

The Panthers staked Mettler to a 2-0 lead in the third. Clare Kramer led off with a single and stole second base. Emily Cox reached on an error, then Kramer scored on Stephanie Thulene’s sacrifice fly and Cox scored on Amanda Bertolozzi’s single.

Erie/Prophetstown made it 4-0 an inning later, when Kylie Ackerman led off with a single, was sacrificed to second and scored on Laykin Miner’s triple. Miner scored later on a groundout.

Finally, the NBA playoffs are set.

It took the entire season to fill out those brackets.

Overtime thrillers in Memphis and Charlotte, a go-ahead dunk in Oklahoma City to win a game and cap another scoring title for Kevin Durant, plus some good old-fashioned disinterest by Brooklyn ... all that, and more, on the final night of the season was needed before the eight conference-quarterfinal matchups in this season's NBA playoffs could be decided.
