---- — CALAMUS — Northeast got back to its winning ways Saturday, taking three games in an eight-team softball tournament hosted by Calamus-Wheatland. The event also featured Camanche and Bellevue, both teams earning a win.

After falling to 5-5 earlier in the year, the Rebels are now on a six-game winning streak, their record now 11-5. Against West Branch, they earned a 7-6 eight-inning victory fueled by Baylie Parson’s two-run, two-hit game. Emily Franks, Aleenah Marcucci, Rylee Dickey and Kelsey Carder each had an RBI, while starting pitcher Maddison Daniels finished with five strikeouts in a complete game. Northeast held off West Branch’s Shannon Laing, who batted in four with a double and a home run.

Against Louisa-Muscatine, sophomore Bailey Claussen threw three innings of two-hit ball, leading to a 12-0 shutout courtesy of the 10-run rule. Carder knocked in two runs, while Marcucci went 3-for-3 with three runs. Dickey added two hits, including a triple.

Bellevue played the Rebels close before a three-run fifth inning put Northeast out of reach, winning 6-1. Tierra Hildebrandt stole three bases with Courtney Stoll going 3-for-3 with a run and a double. Daniels allowed two hits and one run through seven innings with eight strikeouts.

The Comets bounced back against West Branch in a 3-2 victory. Bellevue scored the winning run in the seventh inning.

Highland of Riverside blanked Camanche 4-0 despite multiple hits from Morgan Mussmann and Kelsey Sexton. North Cedar then dropped Camanche in a 7-4 win. The Indians out-hit North Cedar 13-6 but couldn’t find ways to score. Julia Moore drove in two runs in the loss to lead the team.

The Indians took care of Calamus-Wheatland with an 8-3 victory behind a six-run second inning. Camanche combined for 14 hits in the game: three by Allie Lefebure and two apiece by Moore, Libby Schnoor and Maddie Parker. Moore led all hitters with three RBIs.

Cal-Wheat bounced back to take a 6-1 win over North Cedar. The Warriors led off with a three-run first inning and never looked back.

Tonight features plenty of Big East conference play for each team. The Rebels host Midland, Bellevue hosts Camanche and Cal-Wheat travels to Marquette Catholic — all in doubleheaders.

Sabers struggle in North Scott tourney

ELDRIDGE — Despite putting up 16 hits between two games, Central DeWitt came out of Saturday’s North Scott Invitational with two losses, dropping the Sabers’ record to 6-5.

Host North Scott fell behind early to DeWitt, 2-0, but came back in the third inning to take the lead for good with three runs. McKenna Heim pitched six consecutive shutout innings to earn the win after a two-run first inning for DeWitt.

Against Ames, DeWitt fell behind 4-0 in the third inning and 6-0 after the fourth. The Sabers countered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth frame but couldn’t overcome the deficit in a 6-5 loss. DeWitt out-hit its opponent 10-7.
