Herald Staff Report
The Clinton Herald

---- — CLINTON -- Fulton’s Austin Regenwether and Jake Willging were unanimous picks, Regenwether, Erie/Prophetstown lineman Owen McConnell and Morrison’s Ryan Mayberry made the first team on both offense and defense, and Nick Williams of Erie/Prophetstown was selected as the Player of the Year when the Three Rivers Conference North Division coaches named their all-conference football teams.

Williams, the Panthers’ powerful running back, was a unanimous first-team pick on offense in addition to claiming MVP honors. Erie/Prophetstown swept the main awards, too, as Chuck Milem was named Coach of the Year.

Erie/Prophetstown, which finished second to Sterling Newman in the North Division standings, takes an 8-2 record into Saturday’s second round of the Illinois Class 3A playoffs. The Panthers play host to Stillman Valley in a 1:30 p.m. game in Erie, Ill.

Two of the players who helped open holes for Williams also received first-team honors. Owen McConnell was selected at a guard spot, while Kyle Coleman was named first-team center. Both players are seniors, like Williams.

McConnell also earned first-team honors on the defensive line.

Regenwether and Willging represented Fulton on the first team after the Steamers went 5-4 and took third in the conference standings with a 3-3 record.

Regenwether was a unanimous first-team pick at running back and also was selected as first-team linebacker on defense. Willging, like Regenwether a senior, was a unanimous first-team pick on the defensive line.

Mayberry, a senior, was a first-team pick at receiver and was one of two Morrison players named to the first team on defense. He was picked in the secondary, while junior Austin Shoup was a first-team pick on the line. The Mustangs wound up seventh in the standings with a 2-7, 1-5 record.

Fulton also had three players each on offense and defense named to the second team.

Willging and fellow senior Paul Velasco held down the guard spots on offense, while junior Jason Osborn was picked as a receiver. Velasco also was named on the defensive line, while senior Ethan Jones was a second-team linebacker and senior Bryce Holesinger was selected as a second-team defensive back.

Jones, seniors Devin Kuehl and Zach Jenkins, junior Justin Shaffer and sophomore Kegan North were named honorable mention for the Steamers.

Division champion Sterling Newman (9-1, 6-0) had six players selected to the first team.

The South Division also announced its honor teams, and unbeaten Rockridge had both the Player of the Year (Darren Southwell) and Coach of the Year (Sam Graves).
