CHICAGO (AP) — Gov. Pat Quinn says he stressed Illinois’ workforce and transportation when pitching the state to be headquarters of Archer Daniels Midland Company.
Quinn told reporters Wednesday that he spoke with ADM CEO Patricia Woertz several times. Decatur-based ADM has said it will move to Chicago. On Wednesday the company said it intends to have about 50 to 75 employees in a new office. ADM announced earlier this year that it wanted to move its Decatur headquarters.
Illinois lawmakers had been considering millions in tax incentives for the company that would have required ADM to create more jobs. However legislators didn’t approve them before adjourning earlier this month.
The company says a decision hasn’t been made on where it will locate a new technology center.
