MENDOTA, Ill. (AP) — Officials in north-central Illinois say four people have died in a single-vehicle crash near Mendota.
LaSalle County Coroner Jody Bernard says the four victims were pronounced dead the scene early Thursday. They were identified as 20-year-old Brenda E. Hampton of West Brooklyn and Mendota residents 22-year-old Daniel B. Smith, 24-year-old Gregory A. Smith and 22-year-old Robert C. Watson.
A fifth victim, 19-year-old Amanda Blackwell of Plainfield, was taken to a Mendota hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Peoria.
The coroner says autopsies were planned for Thursday.
LaSalle County Sheriff’s officials say the five victims were in a vehicle when it went off the roadway and struck objects including trees.
Mendota is about 50 miles south of Rockford.
