Bucs beat Trenton 24-13

The Branford Buccaneers came one game closer to becoming runners-up in Dist. 2-1A, with a 24-13 win over Trenton on home turf last Friday night. All that stands in their way is Hillard on the road Friday night. Coach Bill Wiles said, "this one will be a big one. We must remain focused."

The Bucs kept the ball on the ground against Trenton scoring three touchdowns and Kyle Certain split the uprights with a 17 yard field goal to give the Bucs 24 points.

The Bucs scored in the first quarter on a one yard run by Wade Armstrong. Certain kicked a 17 yard field goal in the second quarter to give Branford a 10-0 half time lead. In the third quarter senior Tim Clark scored on a three yard run and to finish out the Buccaneers scoring Trent Thompson scored on a 10 yard run. All three point after attempts were good for Branford.

The Tigers scored seven points in the third period and six in the final quarter, but missed the extra point.

Branford finished the night with 228 yards on the ground in 46 attempts. Passing 6 for 40 yards. The Tigers had a total of 219 yards of offense.

David Bass, a Buccaneer sophomore picked off a Tiger aerial.

Defense was outstanding with following players in on tackles:

Kyle Certain 7; Wade Armstrong 9; Tim Clark 12; John Perry 10; Spencer White 3; Daniel Garrett 9; David Barrs 6; Anthony Donato 4; Willie Clemons 5; David Bass 7; Jay Fraddosio 5; Logan Lynch 3; Matt Lambert 4; D. J. McWherter 2.

The Bucs will meet the Hlllard Flashes in an away game Friday night before returning home for senior night the next Friday.

The Bucs are currently 6-2, on the season and 3-1 in Dist. 2-1A, with their only district loss being to the Mayo Hornets.
