Varsity Cagers off to good beginning

The Branford Buccaneer varsity Cagers are off to a good start with wins over Cedar Key 54-41 in the season opener. In the second game of the season they beat the Trenton Tigers 57-36 on the home court and the next day traveled to Oak Hall where they lost 67-49.

In the game with the Sharks the Bucs were lead by John Perry with 20 points; Trent Thompson had 15; Tim Clark 11; Chet Clipper 6; and Aaron Hardin 2. Clipper was hot on the boards pulling down 17. Clark had 9. Perry had 4 rebounds and led the team in steals with 8.

Once again in the game with Trenton Perry finished the night with 19 points. Clipper and Clark had 9 each and Thompson had 8. Mason Tyler and Aaron Harden scored 3 each; Max Lambert and David Bass had 2 each; Kyle Certain and Buddy Owens each had a point. Clipper with 8 and Clark with 6 led the Bucs rebounding.

Junior John Perry was the only Buccaneer in double figures with 12 against a strong Oak Hall team. Mason Tyler finished the game with 9 points. Thompson and Clark each had 6 points; Kyle Hudson 7; David Bass 3; Willie Clemons, Clipper and Christian Diaz each contributed 2.

The Bucs were only down by one point 26-27 at half time but a huge third and fourth quarter by Oak Hall put the game away with Branford scoring eight points in third while Oak Hall added 19. The Bucs scored 15 in the fourth while Oak Hall added 21.

The Bucs had a meeting with the Lafayette Hornets on Tuesday in Mayo. They will host the Bell Bulldogs on Friday and the Bronson Eagles on Monday, Dec. 15.

All four Buccaneer teams, JV girls and boys and varsity girls and boys will all see action in the coming three games. JV boys begin play at 3:30 p.m.
