North Stanly teams wrap up season with perfect records, championships

This past Saturday night, it was a clean sweep for the season championships in the Uwharrie Youth Football League for North Stanly.
North Stanly Division I Red and Division II Blue both went through the regular season and playoffs with out losing a single game.
All season long, Division I Red's defense has been the backbone for the team, which has resulted in only 20 points being scored on it for the entire season.

  • Yadkin Valley Conf. vs. Smoky Mountain
    Murphy (8-4) at Albemarle (12-0)
Friday’s playoff game at Albemarle will definitely be a dogfight when the Murphy Bulldogs come to town in a battle of two teams that are near mirror images of each other.

    Tip of the Week
    Should I Join A League?
There’s nothing better on a cold winter’s night than a warm bowling alley filled with laughter, and the smells coming from the snack bar.

  • Falcons basketball get first victory
Shooting 56% in the first half of play, Pfeiffer University was able to rebound for a 99-84 victory over Livingstone College in men’s basketball action on Monday night in the consolation game of the 2009 Highway 52 Shootout.
Chris Woods paced the Falcons with 23 points followed closely by Jeff Pettiway’s 22.

  • W. Stanly hangs tough, loses at SW Edgecombe
The West Stanly Colts lost a hard fought game 16-6 to the #2-seeded Southwest Edgecombe Cougars.
West Stanly gave the Cougars (11-0), who came in the game averaging more than 30 points per game, more than they had bargained for.
The Colts large offensive line coupled with the soggy field left by rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ida evened up the odds.

  • Enjoying the feats of your fellow students, siblings, children
I have never made it a secret in my professional media career that I have been a homer for Stanly County as a whole.
Since my first basketball game in 1994 at Pfeiffer (in which a current Richfield first-grade teacher hit a winning three-point field goal to lift the Falcon women to a victory), I admit openly and freely to being awfully proud when anyone in the county does well.

  • Almond signs with Georgia
The athletic programs of Gray Stone Day School have grown by leaps and bounds in the eight-year history of the school.
Gray Stone saw their first team state championship just last weekend when the Knights earned the 1A title in cross-country.
Sarah Almond made history for Gray Stone Day this week when she became the first female athlete to sign with a NCAA Division-I school.
