Council wants to keep city clear of eyesores

CAMANCHE — Property owners along Washington Boulevard will receive letters from the city of Camanche about keeping the area looking nice.

Councilman Gary Kampe said there are some areas along the newly constructed roadway that have a lot of junk sitting out. The council agreed that long grass, old cars and other items can be seen in some areas. Councilman Trevor Willis felt that they cannot have junk on the main road.

City Administrator Tom Roth asked what type of items and disrepair the city wants to pursue. He said what some people might consider junk, other would not. He asked how long cars and other items needed to sit before the city takes action.

“When it’s just crap that’s been sitting there months on end,” Willis said. “Junk is junk.”

The council agreed the city should not go out and actively look for these types of problems. However, if the city knows of problems or receives complaints, actions would be taken.

Letters will be sent to all property owners along Washington Boulevard to ensure they are in compliance with the city’s ordinances.
