Christmas coming to Fulton

Last year, the Christmas walk included a small festival of trees, with area businesses decorating trees sold during a silent auction. This year, people will have a chance to purchase decorated wreaths instead.

“It’s always good to change things,” Bennett said.

A silent auction for the wreaths will be held at the Fulton Masonic Lodge, with proceeds going toward the purchase of new downtown christmas lights. Bennett said the current lights are more than 30 years old and replacement parts are no longer available.

In connection with the Christmas walk, Second Reformed Church, 703 14th Ave., Fulton, will host a live simulcast from the Women of Faith, beginning at 7 p.m. Organizer Joy Van Zuiden said this Christmas production will feature a program of Christian musicians and speakers for the whole family. She felt this would be a nice way for people to start their Christmas season.

“It’s mostly to prepare people’s hearts for the Christmas season,” Van Zuiden said.

She added the free event is inspirational and entertaining, featuring serious speakers, music and a lot of laughter.

“It’s just a real opportunity to take advantage of,” Van Zuiden said.

Holiday activities also will be available Dec. 7. Bennett said Christmas at Heritage Canyon and the illuminated walk are always favorites. The day also will feature a breakfast with Santa from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the fire station and a children’s story at 11 a.m. at Schmaling Memorial Library.

For more information on the event, visit the city’s website at or call the Fulton Chamber of Commerce at (815) 589-4545.
