CLINTON — A man charged with choking his girlfriend pleaded guilty to domestic abuse with injury.
Joshua J. McRae, 28, was sentenced to 60 days in the Clinton County jail, with 16 days suspended and credit for 44 days served. He was fined $315 and ordered to complete 12 months probation and the Batterers Education Program. McRae was originally charged with domestic abuse with strangulation.
The charges resulted from a Feb. 17 incident where Clinton officers were dispatched at 7:30 p.m. to 2804 Pershing Blvd. According to court documents, the victim told dispatchers that her boyfriend of two months, McRae, became upset when she got home and they began to argue. The victim continued that the defendant threatened both her and himself, according to the affidavit.
Court documents continue that the victim told police that the defendant wanted to have sex, but she refused. He then placed his hands around her neck, pushing her down onto the bed and threatening her, before leaving the residence on foot, according to the affidavit. Officers noticed visible marks on the front and back of the victim's neck.
McRae was ordered to have no contact with the victim for 12 months.
