Summer events abound at the YWCA

Summer months at the YWCA are always full of new classes, events, and activities.

The beginning of this summer has not been an exception. We have added to our vast list of more than 50 different fitness and water classes. At the YWCA, we offer a variety of classes so all of our members will feel comfortable and confident in trying new things.

Two new classes designed to specifically target groups of people who are at unique fitness levels are H.E.A.L.T.H. and Strength Training Camp. These two classes, along with many others, allow participants to be surrounded by individuals who are at their same fitness level.

H.E.A.L.T.H. is a fitness class created for individuals who have 50 pounds or more to lose. H.E.A.L.T.H. meets Monday and Wednesdays from 6 to 7 a.m. or 5:15 to 6:15 pm. Participants learn how to get the most out of their workouts at their current fitness levels. H.E.A.L.T.H. is offered to kick start weight loss with encouragement, accountability and support. In addition to great workouts, HyVee Dietitian Beth Freehill teaches participants the basics of effective nutrition. H.E.A.L.T.H. class is offered free to YWCA members.

Strength Training Camp is a class designed specifically for teens up to 19 years of age who are interested in learning how to lift weights properly and develop a lifelong love of fitness. Participants will learn everything they need to know about strength training. Correct form, technique and establishing good muscle memory are critical to making strength gains and staying injury free. Strength Training Camp is free to YWCA members and $30 for community members.

For more information on any of the various YWCA fitness classes, please contact YWCA Health & Wellness Director Stephanie Sommers at 242-2110 or at

One thing is for certain, there really is “something for everyone” to enjoy at the YWCA! For a complete fitness class listing, or more information on YWCA events, visit the YWCA website at or call 242-2110. You can also join us on Facebook. Search YWCA Clinton and “LIKE” us.
