COAL VALLEY, Ill. —
The three lions at Coal Valley's Niabi Zoo are getting a new, $3 million home.
The Rock Island Argus reports the project was approved Tuesday by the Rock Island County Forest Preserve Commission.
The one male and two female lions at the western Illinois zoo will get more space to prowl once the exhibit is built. Construction's expected to take about nine months, but authorities haven't said when work on the site will begin.
The lion enclosure is one of the oldest in the 40-acre zoo, which is home to more than 330 animals.
The Niabi Zoo lost its accreditation last year after the Association of Zoos and Aquariums said some exhibits were lacking.
