Santorum in Iowa: GOP still divided after RNC plan

JOHNSTON — Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum says Republicans remain divided despite efforts to bring their competing factions together.

After being interviewed Wednesday on the Iowa Public Television program, "Iowa Press," in Johnston, Santorum said: "It's clear the party has got some division" and warned of "suspicion" in rival camps.

Tea party conservatives feel unappreciated and establishment Republicans feel wrongly accused of compromising their conservative ideals. Santorum's answer is growing the GOP's working class ranks.

Santorum ran for president in 2012 and narrowly won Iowa's leadoff caucuses, but GOP officials first said Mitt Romney won.

Santorum is open to running again, saying he's "doing everything I would be doing if I was going to run."

He's in Iowa to endorse Secretary of State Matt Schultz, who is running for U.S. House.
