We must work together to create a great community for all

It’s summer and you see many individuals and groups outdoors enjoying quick get-togethers and taking part in fun recreational activities.

Drive, or better yet, walk along the riverfront and see those walking, jogging, eating lunch, going to the Showboat or to the Candlelight for lunch or dinner. Many are just plain enjoying the good weather!

It’s great to see, isn’t it?

An active life leads to good health, one of the three areas identified by United Way of Clinton County, Iowa, as needed for a quality life. Without good health, children, youth, and adults cannot attend school, training, or work to support themselves as adults. Good health, along with a quality education and a good job, are essential for a productive, satisfying, self-sufficient life.

United Way of Clinton County, Iowa works with six partner agencies to improve the health of at-risk individuals in Clinton County. UWCCI makes sure that biomedical products are available for those who are ill or involved in accidents as well as maternal health care and health education so that for mothers, fathers and teens make good life choices. We work collaboratively with partner agencies to offer a wide range of recreational activities for children, youth and adults that teach how to get along with others and help those with mental and physical disabilities gain or improve skills. United Way funding also provides counseling and support for those facing struggles to stop addictions or get away from abusive relationships.

We all need a healthy beginning and, after that, access to health care along with healthy eating and activities our entire lives to enjoy the good times and weather the difficult ones. By working to support healthy choices for a safe home and community, United Way of Clinton County, Iowa improves the quality of life for the entire community.

The real power to create change comes from a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.

It takes everyone in our community working together to create a brighter future for all. Together, we can accomplish more than any single group or individual can on its own.

That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.

Heather Wuebben,

Citizen Review Committee Health Panel Chairwoman
