Clinton man charged with kidnapping

CLINTON — A 38-year-old Clinton man faces kidnapping and domestic abuse charges after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and held her against her will for more than three days.

Dewayne E. Patterson was arrested around 12:20 p.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of North Second Street on a warrant for kidnapping in the first degree, a class A felony, and domestic abuse-assault, a class D felony.

According to Clinton Police Capt. Tom Bohle, on Thursday, a 28-year-old Clinton woman reported to the Clinton Police Department that she was assaulted by her boyfriend, who is the father of her child.

She also reported that she was held against her will at their residence from April 1 to April 4.  

The woman was treated at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton and at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.  

The case remains under investigation by the Clinton Police Department.
