Robinsons blaze at Bettendorf

BETTENDORF — While Pleasant Valley may have taken home the team title in all three divisions at the Bettendorf Boys ABC Invitational, Clinton’s Deshond Robinson took home three titles of his own.

Robinson, a senior for the River Kings, won the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes in the “A” division.

In the 100, Robinson edged out Bettendorf’s Gabe Rees at 11.39 seconds. Rees crossed the finish line at 11.41. Robinson’s best time this year is 10.80, which is good for fourth-best in the state.

Robinson didn’t get a season-best in the 200 on Friday, but his 22.11 was still good enough to win over Rees and Tyler Flanders of Pleasant Valley who both came in at 22.55.

Robinson clocked a 49.35 in the 400, again beating Flanders to win. Flanders came in at 50.61.

At the end of the night, Robinson was the anchor for the 4x400 relay, and Clinton came in second place behind Pleasant Valley at 3:39.48. Pleasant Valley came in five seconds earlier.

Clinton came in fourth in the “A” division in both the 4x100 and 4x200.

Barrion Collins won the “B” division 100 coming in at 11.49.

Marquis Robinson almost won the 200, but crossed the finish line just two one-hundredths short of Kyle Werning of Pleasant Valley. Robinson had a time of 23.29. Robinson also came in second place in the 400 at 51.53, but it was his fastest 400 this season.

Marquis, however, won the “C” division 100 with a time of 11.73 followed by Nick White of Pleasant Valley.

Delante Chamberlain won the 110 hurdles in the “B” division at 16.67, just a single one-hundredth ahead of Muscatine’s Dakota Petersen. Chamberlain’s fastest time this season is 16.05. Chamberlain also won the “B” 110 hurdles.

In the “B” field events, Austin Peters finished second in the discus with his best throw coming in at 131 feet, 3 inches. Chuck Klutho of Bettendorf had the best throw at 144 feet, 8 inches.
