Sophomores win in OT

CLINTON — Quarterback Luke Larkin scored from a yard out in overtime to lead Clinton past Davenport North 13-7 in sophomore football Thursday at Coan Field.

“Our defense really played solid tonight as a whole, holding North to under 55 yards of total offense,” Clinton coach Mike Griswold said. “They overcame some adversity late in the game and came up with a big stop in overtime.”

Walker Chapman was the workhorse in the backfield, rushing 16 times for 116 yards, while Eric Williams added 41 yards on four carries. Larkin finished 8-of-16 passing for 83 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. Colin Nelson caught five passes for 57 yards.

“Offensively, I thought we moved the ball pretty well but just had some trouble finishing with some points,” Griswold said. “Our offensive line improved dramatically from our scrimmage last week, and both Walker and Eric ran well between the tackles. Colin Nelson also did a great job filling in areas where we had some injuries late in the game.”

The River Kings hit the road next Friday, playing at North Scott.

Clinton opened the scoring in the second quarter on a 16-yard toss from Larkin to Makai Hart. Seth Bolen added the extra point. North pulled even in the fourth quarter on a 25-yard pass play.
