Fillies back on track

Specifically, she pointed to senior Alyssa Workman. Deter decided to move Workman from the outfield to third base. The team was rewarded with error-free softball from the hot corner. Workman effortlessly threw out three batters and in the sixth inning caught a smoking line drive to end the inning.

Morrison picked up three more runs in the sixth as insurance. On the day, the team scored 16 runs between both games in the fifth and sixth innings.

Eads credited the late outbursts to good coaching.

“Our coaches got on us and we started being more disciplined at the plate,” she said.

“They see the pitcher a lot more and they hone in on it,” Deter said on her team going deep into games. “We keep giving them instructions and so far it’s been effective for us.”

The wins improved the Fillies to 13-7. Meanwhile, Fulton dropped to 4-6.

Pepper said many of her team’s games had been canceled from rainouts. Fulton has four games this week as a result, so any lessons learned from Monday will have to be taught on the field during games. The Steamers are 1-6 in conference play.

“We’re making some adjustments,” Pepper said, not mentioning specifics. “There are some things that are going to change come Wednesday.”
