Camanche man sentenced in kidnapping case

CLINTON — A Camanche man will serve as much as 20 years in prison for holding his wife at knifepoint on July 7, 2012.

In April, Arthur Walker, 52, 4102 Ninth St., Camanche, pleaded guilty to third-degree kidnapping, third-degree sexual abuse and willful injury causing serious injury with a dangerous weapon, which are all class C felonies. Judge Mark Cleve ordered Walker to serve as much as 10 years in prison for each of the three charges on May 2. Two of the sentences will run consecutively and one will run concurrently. A special sentence of lifetime parole is included with the sexual abuse charge.

The hostage situation for which Walker was charged began hours before police were called by a witness at 3:52 p.m. July 7, according to court documents. According to the affidavit, Walker went home and began punching his wife after being cut off from having more alcohol at a Camanche bar.

According to court documents, Walker grabbed a knife and held it to his wife’s neck for two hours while he sexually abused her. The victim escaped to her neighbor’s house shortly before 4 p.m., only to have Walker physically remove her while armed with the knife and drag her back into their home, according to the affidavit. He released her at 4:05 p.m. and she was taken to Mercy Medical Center North.
