Andover house fire under investigation

ANDOVER  —  The cause of a house fire at 4641 135th Street near Andover is still under investigation, according to the Andover Fire Department.

Fire crews were dispatched at 12:55 p.m. Sunday to the residence of Nicole Smith after an explosion caused the house to catch fire.

According to friend Holly Bielema, Smith’s boyfriend Lee Foreman, was working in the garage when a pressurized tank exploded, sending metal flying through the air and into his arm.

Other than stitches to patch the wound in Foreman’s arm, there were no injuries reported from the explosion and ensuing blaze.

Bielema said Smith’s children were not at the home during the fire, and both she and Foreman were able to escape the flames.

A Facebook event page has been created by Bielema and mutual friend Nikki Preston to gather clothing, toys, blankets and other household goods to help provide for the family.

A fundraising bank account has also been set up for the family by Smith’s sister, Shonda Smith- Qualman, at Community State Bank in Fulton.
