Reader: Clinton needs to prevent dog attacks

CLINTON — Due to the recent vicious dog attack in our town I feel the city of Clinton should re-address the prospect of banning pit bulls.

How horrible for this young man to have had this attack happen.

I was told a few years ago that you cannot ban a breed of dogs, however, surrounding towns such as Preston and Maquoketa have these bans in effect. A few years ago my little dog Hailey was attacked and killed by two pit bulls in my yard. At that time our City Council didn’t think it was such a big deal.

Who else needs to be hurt before something is done?

I feel terrible that this young man will have to live with the effects of this horrible incident. It seems that every time we hear of a vicious dog attack it involves pit bulls. They bite to kill and won’t let go of the victim.

Every time I hear of another vicious attack with pit bulls it brings back horrible memories. While driving through Clinton recently I witnessed four pit bulls in one block, none of which had leashes.

Doesn’t Clinton have a leash law?

It’s just a matter of time before another attack happens.

Hopefully Clinton will step up and do the right thing by preventing another pit bull attack. Clinton should prevent this from ever happening again.

Connie Crandall, Clinton
