SAVANNA, Ill. —
A Thursday morning house fire which caused the death of a Savanna, Ill., man is currently under investigation.
Firefighters spent the morning battling the fire that fully-engulfed a house at 1040 Vine Street, just outside of Savanna city limits.
Savanna Fire Chief Shawn Picolotti confirmed that the call came in at 5:41 a.m. and firemen did not return to the station until approximately 2 p.m. He added that a shed also caught fire.
The body of homeowner Martin Hansen, 82, was located within the house. The State Fire Marshall’s Office, Illinois State Police Crime Scene and the Carroll County Coroner were notified. A cause is still unknown and the fire remains under investigation.
The Savanna Fire Department was assisted by Thomson Fire Department, Mount Carroll Fire Department, Savanna Ambulance, Sabula Fire Department and the Carroll County’s Sheriff’s Office.
