Fulton deals with vandalism

FULTON, Ill. — The city of Fulton hopes to discourage vandalism at the city parks.

“Somebody is sick, sick, really sick,” Alderman Eugene Field said.

Field told the rest of the Fulton City Council that the restrooms at School Park on 10th Avenue were recently vandalized. Fulton Public Works Director Dan Clark said it was mainly exterior paint damage. Field added that he has seen tables stood up on their ends and spindles torn off of the railing.

Field wondered what could be done to prevent the vandalism. He still has $225 that he collected awhile ago for anyone with information leading to an arrest.

Mayor Larry Russell said this type of vandalism does more than just physical damage. He feels it also dissuades volunteers from working to beautify an area when their work is going to be destroyed.

Russell felt a neighborhood watch might help. People with information about vandalism can also call the Whiteside County Crime Stoppers at (815) 625-7867 or visit www.whitesidecountycrimestoppers.com.
