---- — CLINTON — For two Ashford University seniors, music has been an integral part of their time at school.

Megan Wagger, 22, of Preston, and Joe Snyder, 21, of Winnebago, Ill., have been involved in music most of their lives. Joe’s family, especially his mother, exposed him to music at an early age. The family sang at nursing homes and went Christmas caroling. Megan agreed that she has always been musical. She participated in choir in high school.

Megan is majoring in public relations and marketing, while Joe is majoring in sports and recreation management. When they started at the university four years ago, they each decided to join the Ashford concert choir.

“It’s just a fun way to interact on campus,” Megan said.

Megan enjoys performing in front of an audience. She loves witnessing the audience’s reaction, adding that hearing their applauses is very rewarding. Joe’s favorite part of the choir is meeting new people who join each year.

“It’s always fun to see the group grow together,” Joe said. Megan added that it is fun to hear the sound they make as a group.

The choir will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Clare Hall. For Megan, who is graduating this spring, this will be her last performance. Joe will have one more before he graduates in December.

Joe likes performing classical pieces the best. He said that singing Handel’s “Messiah” is a wonderful challenge. Megan prefers fun, up-beat music. Joe promised that this weekend’s show will deliver a little bit of everything.

“Rob (Choir Director Rob Engelson) never holds back on his song selections,” Megan said.

With their time with the choir almost at an end, Megan and Joe plan to continue to have music in their lives. Megan continues to sing at her church and Joe will continue participating in River Chor. He added that no matter what his life brings, he imagines that music will always be an important part of his life.

Any students interested in joining the choir can contact Engelson at rob.engelson@ashford.edu or at 424-4023, ext. 7826. Auditions are typically held during the first week of each semester.
