---- — CLINTON — Owner Kevin Goddard is focussing on the community’s “blue collar” outdoorsmen by opening the Outdoor Sporting Den, 305 S. Second St., on Monday.

Goddard said many people may not be able to spend a lot of money on their favorite outdoor recreational activities. He wanted to create a place where people can purchase used fishing poles, tree stands, grills and more. That is when he thought of opening this consignment store.

“In every breath that I have taken, from day one, I’ve put my heart and soul in it,” Goddard said.

Since leasing the building in the middle of May, he has worked to decorate the store in a way that is inviting and fun. Tons of camouflage decorates the walls, along with a wallpaper mural in the front and a painted mural in the back. Goddard also has placed deer heads, fish and even an ostrich egg around the room.

“I just wanted it to be cool when they walked in,” Goddard said.

The front of his store is focused on a variety of outdoor equipment and apparel. In the back room, Goddard will offer live bait and fishing and duck hunting supplies. Rear access and a back parking lot is available to those visiting this portion of the store.

Two kinds of minnows — one-and-a-half-inch and two-inch minnows — swim in a 9-foot long tank in the back room. Goddard also will supply nightcrawlers, red worms, trout worms, wax worms, crickets, shrimp and chicken liver. Leeches and crawfish also will be available seasonably.

Goddard is working to offer a variety of bait at an affordable price. He also will offer food items, such as pop, Glacier ice and other snacks, for those going on fishing trips. Next year, he hopes to offer a fishing tournament for children.

Customers also can purchase items on the store’s website, www.outdoorsportingden.com. The store will add products weekly.

Goddard said his website will offer tips on what bait is the best for each type of fish, as well as the terms and conditions for consignment at the store. People may also order live bait online and pick it up later without having to wait.

Outdoor Sporting Den will open Monday. Its current hours are 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
