Lincoln dinner theater set for Dec. 4
President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln welcome you to the White House at 6:30 p.m. (CST) Dec. 4 for a dinner theater on the second floor of Harlan Hall on the southeast corner of the square in downtown Marshall.
Music will be provided by harpist Harriet Moore and Epicurean delights will be those of an 1864 White House dinner. In addition to dinner, a two-act play will feature Donna McCreary as Mrs. Abraham Lincoln and Dean Dorrell as President Lincoln. Period dress is encouraged.
Tickets are $25 per person. Proceeds from the event go to Harlan Hall, Marshall’s 1872 Opera House. Tickets are limited and may be purchased at the Marshall Public Library, Four Square Building Center and Marshall Auto Parts.

LTC to present annual Fall Concert
Lincoln Trail College will present its annual Fall Concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Zwermann Arts Center Theater. Featured performers include the Statesmen Singers, Concert Band and Jazz Band.
Directed by Yvonne Newlin, the Statesmen Singers will perform favorites such as “Smile” and “I’ve Got a Gal in Kalamazoo,” as well as gospel songs, a Beach Boys hit, and a TV theme song.
Instrumental music by the Concert Band will include “America the Beautiful,” “Evening in Rio,” a special arrangement of Looney Tunes and Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing.” The Pep Band also will play some upbeat tunes.
Rounding out the evening of music is LTC’s Jazz Band, directed by Ken Strieby. The group will perform selections including Maynard Ferguson’s “Fireshaker,” a tune by Dizzy Gillespie, Gershwins’ “They Can’t Take that Away from Me,” “Route 66” and others.

Teen mystery event coming up at library
Kids in grades 6 through 12 can solve an original teen mystery, “Double Dose,” Nov. 20 in the Main Library at Seventh and Poplar streets.
The library will offer free mystery books, refreshments and prizes for participants.
The event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; doors open at 6:15. Parents should arrive promptly at 8:30 for pickup. Call the Young People’s Department at (812) 232-1113, Ext. 294, for registration, which is required.

Opera and Music Theater Workshop set
The Indiana State University Opera and Music Theater Workshop will present an evening with a French twist at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 and 15 in the Recital Hall of the Center for Performing and Fine Arts.
The select ensemble, conducted by Mark Carlisle and stage directed by Colleen Davis, will perform staged scenes from Bizet’s “Carmen,” Massenet’s “Manon,” Lully’s “Alceste,” Berlioz’s “Beatrice and Benedict,” Ravel’s “The Bewitched Child” and Gluck’s “Iphegenie in Tauride.”
The second portion of the program will feature musical selections from famous French-themed American musicals of the 1950s, including Cole Porter’s “Can-Can,” Lerner and Leowe’s “Gigi,” and Bob Merrill’s Tony Award-winning “Carnival.” The scenes will be accompanied on the piano by Andrea Marlow, with costume assistance provided by the ISU theater department.
A special feature of the program will be new original English translations for the Lully and Gluck scenes.

The Friends of the Vigo County Public Library will celebrate its 25th anniversary tonight with An Evening with Lori Borgman, who is a nationally syndicated columnist, humorist and author of “I Was A Better Mother Before I Had Kids.”
The event is 6:30 p.m. in the Main Library at Seventh and Poplar streets.
Purchase a Friends membership ($5 minimum) to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a drink and laugh with the humor of Lori Borgman.

Two to share Knitter of Month honors
River Wools … A Knitting Place will celebrate a Knitter of the Month on the First Friday of each month.
The Knitter of the Month is chosen for her passion for fiber arts, skill and talent, encouragement of others and use of fiber arts to help others.
For November, two individuals will share Knitter of the Month honors. Charlotte Black and Peggy Engelbach have long provided leadership for the local chapter of the Knitting Guild. Through their leadership, the guild has provided needed knitted garments to Terre Haute organizations such as the Council on Domestic Abuse and Union Hospital. The organization also encourages new fiber enthusiasts to keep developing their skills and love of the craft.
The pair will be honored at River Wools at 6 p.m. tonight with a short presentation. Samples of their knitting will be displayed in the store throughout November.

Patsy Cline Tribute planned at Rosebud
Nationally known singer and songwriter C.J. Harding brings her acclaimed “Sweet Dreams: A Patsy Cline Tribute” to the Rosebud Theatre in Effingham, at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Harding re-creates Patsy Cline in a concert-style setting while evoking the true essence and personality of Patsy Cline. The show takes one back to 1963 just before Patsy was killed in a plane crash near Nashville. With a brilliant display of costuming and boundless energy, Harding lovingly portrays Patsy Cline’s most famous songs, such as “Sweet Dreams,” “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Walking after Midnight” and “Always.”

The Centenary United Methodist Church Art and Holiday Gift Fair is Friday and Saturday in the church at 301 N. Recycled Art Show coming up Dec. 2
Ivy Tech Community College will present its third annual Recycled Art Show on from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at an award reception in the Oakley Auditorium Art Gallery at 8000 S. Education Drive.
Amateurs, high school students and professionals are invited to submit art made of recycled materials between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 17 to Karen Page in Room H130 at Ivy Tech Community College for judging in several categories.
The artwork entered can be from a group or an individual and must be made of recycled materials and its purpose other than its original use. Cash prizes will be given for Best of Show, Best High School Student, Best Amateur and Best Professional.

Art and Noodles event coming up Nov. 15
Fairbanks Community Center in northwestern Sullivan County will be hosting Art and Noodles from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15.
The center will be serving homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, corn/green beans, roll and drink for $6. Desserts are $1 and carry outs are available. Coinciding with the dinner will be an Affordable Art Show.
Local professional artists have created paintings, ceramics and photographic pieces specifically for this event that are all priced under $30. In addition, local elementary student artwork from Farmersburg and Sullivan will also be on display for attendees to enjoy.
