TERRE HAUTE —
The Greater Terre Haute Open Pro-Am will be at 7 p.m. on June 12 at the Terre Haute Bowling Center. This is being run in conjunction with that weekend’s (June 13-14) Professional Bowling Association Midwest/Central Regional Tournament.
The pro-am is a no-tap format, with the adult winner earning $500 based on 60 entries.
Adult entry fee is $59 or $159 which includes a Roto Grip Rogue Cell Bowling Ball. Junior entry fee is $39 or $139 which includes the Rogue Cell ball. Each participant will also receive certificate to be signed by the pro bowlers, a special tournament towel and other gifts with their paid entry.
The Bowling Center recently announced its scholarship winners from its junior bowling program. The scholarships are based on a points system based on attendance, performance, participation in state and local tournaments and grades. The Bowling Center distributed $9,200.
The scholarship winners were:

Sparks leaving VU — After guiding Vincennes University to the program’s 15th Men’s NJCAA National Championship — and second in a row — and finishing ninth in the 2009 Intercollegiate Team Championships, VU Coach Gary Sparks has resigned to accept a position with the United States Bowling Congress.
Sparks will relocate to the USBC’s hometown of Arlington, Texas. He will develop programs for the USBC that promote and bolster the sport with youth and amateur bowlers.
The USBC was formed to serve amateur adult and youth bowlers throughout the United States, serving more than 2.5 million members. It is also the national governing body for bowling as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee.
In addition to coaching he has directed VU’s Bowling Industry Management and Technology Program and has managed the VU Bowling Lanes for 20 years.
Preview of coming attractions — The four 2009 inductees into the Terre Haute Bowling Hall of Fame will be the subject of a feature story in Tuesday’s Tribune-Star.
And the winner is? Stay tuned.
