Taking flight | ‘Hawk’ to face his cousin with Grey Cup berth on line

Andrew Hawkins remembers watching his cousin Geroy Simon on television when Simon was a wide receiver playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference during the mid-1990s.“He’s a guy I looked up to ever since I was a little kid,” said Hawkins who, at 23, is 11 years younger than Simon. “I remember seeing him on TV when he was at Maryland in college when I was a little kid. It blew my mind. Now, everything has come full circle.”The two Johnstown natives will be on the same field today during one of the Canadian Football League’s biggest games of the season.Hawkins is on the Montreal Alouettes roster as a rookie wide receiver. The former University of Toledo standout has worked hard to earn playing time and in recent weeks has proved he can be a productive part of Montreal’s offense.

Bill Guerin still has some goals left in him at age 39. What’s surprising is he has a few left jabs and right hooks, too.Guerin ended Pittsburgh’s eight-game streak without a power-play goal by scoring in the first period, Jordan Staal scored short-handed and the Penguins wrapped up Anaheim’s winless four-game road trip by beating the Ducks 5-2 on Monday night.

Chad Ochocinco, always the self-promoter, planned to send mustard to the Steelers’ defensive backs last week before coach Marvin Lewis halted the condiment giveaway. The Bengals receiver’s implied message was that Pittsburgh would be playing catch-up after taking on Cincinnati.Guess what: He’s right.
