Kincaid’s Hamburgers makes its way to Weatherford

From the size of the crowd at Kincaid’s Weatherford opening, I wasn’t the only one eagerly waiting for them to open. The day of their opening, well, all I can say is, “the joint was jumping.” In fact, there were so many people there, we waited until the next day for a time when most people were through eating, and it was kinda quiet.

I was first introduced to Kincaid’s in Fort Worth in the ‘50s, and then in 1966, things changed. The place was a combined grocery store and a grill area to cook hamburgers on Camp Bowie Blvd. Those hamburgers cooking on the grill had an aroma that made your stomach growl, and it didn’t stop until you took the first bite. I remember Mr. Gentry so well. He had bought the store from Mr. Kincaid and that’s when he began cooking more than grocery stocking. He never seemed to slow down. He was everywhere in that store; always saying hi while on the run. People from all parts of Fort Worth and the surrounding cities came to Kincaid’s to eat some of his good burgers.

Jeff Collins and Robby Seabree, the general manager in the Weatherford store, are doing a good job of keeping the serving line moving and getting the food out to the customers. They have certainly been busy with all the people crowding in for the Kincaid’s hamburger.

This last Monday when we stopped by to get some burgers and onion rings, Jonathan Gentry was in the store. He is the grandson of the original O.R. Gentry. He was in Weatherford checking things out and I think he was pleased with the amount of business they were having.

One beverage they have that is a favorite of mine is IBC Root Beer. It is so smooth and when it is icy cold, it compliments burgers and fries.

Speaking of fries, theirs are good, but so are the onion rings. They weren’t greasy and the serving was very generous. In fact, Jim said the next time we would split an order. I agreed to that. That’s all I agreed to split. The burger stays whole on my plate.

Kincaid’s has been written about in newspapers and magazines from coast to coast. The articles were first written quite a few years ago, but they are still winning the raves, and well, they should.

The burgers are huge with a half-pound beef patty still being patted out by hand and put on the fresh tomatoes, lettuce and pickles on the bun.

You are able to have a Kincaid’s burgers no matter where you live now. They still have the original store on Camp Bowie, but they also have stores in Arlington, Southlake, Overton Ridge Blvd. and in other parts of Fort Worth.

The Weatherford store is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The inside is bright and your choice of seating is picnic tables with bright table coverings. If you sit there long enough you will probably see your friends coming in to eat.

There a lot of people besides us that have been eagerly waiting for Kincaid’s to open here in Weatherford and now that it is, their hamburgers will be on our menu quite often.

Drop by, try their burger and I think you will agree with the thousands of other people who have tried them; they are real winners.
