WPD needs help getting $10K grant
WEATHERFORD — Normally, when Weatherford Police need your help, the department is asking for aid in solving a case, and while they continue to ask for help in solving local crimes, this time they are seeking help worth $10,000.
A $10,000 grant is being awarded by Nixle, a service that delivers neighborhood level public safety and community event notifications via the Web, e-mail and cell phone. According to WPD, Nixle is free, simple and trusted.
The grant will be given to the top three agencies which register the most users, per capita, over the next 90 days.
A release from WPD states the grant would be used for public safety issues, therefore, giving back to the community.
“You can help the department and the community by completing just one simple step,” stated the release from Public Information Officer Wendy Field.
The Police Department is asking each Weatherford resident to contact five or more friends or family members and ask them to sign up for Nixle at http://local.nixle.com/register/.
Officers and civilians of the Weatherford Police Department have been using the service for the last few weeks to familiarize themselves with Nixle and have “found it to be very user friendly delivering the information quickly and accurately once it is released.”
The winning agencies will be announced Dec. 23, 2009.
For more information or with questions, contact the police department at (817) 598-4345 or e-mail: wfield@weatherfordtx.gov.
