Millsap with title hopes after Chico shutout

Staff Report

The Millsap Bulldogs put themselves in position to vie for a share of the district crown by beating Chico at Dragon Stadium 27-0, Friday. The Boyd Yellowjackets (4-0 in District 9-2A, 5-4 overall) helped set up the other half of next Friday’s showdown, beating Paradise, 38-7.

Millsap (3-1, 7-1) dominated the Dragons from the beginning, jumping to a 13-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Junior quarterback Zeb Littlefield figured into all of the Bulldogs’ offensive scores, running 21 yards for the opening score. Littlefield also connected on passing touchdowns to Travis McCullough and Chris Hicks, of 40 and 15 yards, respectively.

Millsap held Chico to 99 total yards and contributed to the scoring in the second quarter when Chris Hicks snagged an errant Dragons’ pass, returning the pick for a 74-yard score.

Kicker Andy Chestnut rounded out the Millsap scoring, booting 3 of 4 point-after attempts successfully.

Millsap hosts Boyd Friday at Bulldogs Stadium. A win gives Millsap a tie for first place with the top seed in the playoffs. A loss to the Yellowjackets could drop the Bulldogs into a 3-way tie, with tie-breakers deciding the advancing teams. Kickoff against Boyd us set for 7:30 p.m.

Pojo’s playoffs hopes dashed in loss to Azle

Staff Report

A 2-point try by the Springtown Porcupines in the fourth quarter failed, as the Azle Hornets came from behind to beat Pojo 26-24, Friday.

Hornets running back Jordan Beall carried the load for Azle (1-5 in District 6-4A, 2-7 overall), rushing for 300 yards on 36 attempts on the night. Beall scored twice in the contest, including the go-ahead touchdown in the final period.

Despite Springtown receiver Clayton Cooper gathered in scoring tosses from Caden Cowan of 40 and 61 yards, the Porcupines had a tough time slowing down Beall, who is the second leading rusher in the area.

Springtown (1-5, 4-5) falls out of contention for a postseason spot with the loss. Pojo’s final game will be played at home on Senior Night, with a 7:30 p.m. game against Saginaw.
