Bulldogs look to get piece of district pie from Boyd

MILLSAP — The Millsap Bulldogs are on the brink of a District 9-2A title. Standing in the way if those hopes is Boyd, who travels to Bulldog Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re 3-1 in district and we’re 4-0, so if we win, we will be co-District Champions,” said Millsap head coach Kyle Coker. “They’re a very good football team. They were favored in district and state-ranked. They’re probably the highest-ranked team we have played this year.”

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Boyd is known for its size, as well as the leadership of quarterback Tim Fleming. The senior is averaging over 170 yards per game, just as prolific through the air as on the ground.

“They do have some other guys that go with him, but he’s the main offensive threat. He’s the go-to guy,” Coker said. “We’re going to have to contain him for sure. We just need to slow him down and have our defense keep us in the game.

“Offensively, we have to do whatever we need to do to move the football.”

The Bulldog offense has had no trouble producing points lately, as the passing game with quarterback Zeb Littlefield has begun to emerge. Littlefield threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s win over Chico. He also rushed for a touchdown as well.

“Boyd pretty much has a reading-style defense. They just like to use their size and strength to get to the ball,” Coker said. “We have some good size too, and I think with our speed, we match up pretty well.”
