DAVENPORT — Two Davenport West pitchers threw shutouts as the state-ranked Falcons swept Clinton’s baseball team 12-0 and 8-0 in Mississippi Athletic Conference action Monday.

Ryan Caudle fired a two-hitter at the River Kings in the opener and got offensive help in the form of homers by Justin Brauer and Joel Donahue.

Curtis Howard had both of Clinton’s hits, which were singles.

In the second game, Brauer delivered a four-hitter for the Falcons.

Pitchers of record for Clinton were Howard in the first game and Ryan Hovey in the second.

West, rated 10th in Class 4A, is 11-2 in the Mississippi Athletic Conference and 20-3 overall. The River Kings are 2-12 and 4-13.

Clinton jumps out of league play for a few games this week, including a game at Central DeWitt at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

On Thursday, Clinton hosts Northeast at Alliant Energy Field. Game time is 3 p.m. following a 1 p.m. junior varsity contest.
