CLINTON — A Clinton County birth certificate indicates Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock was born in Clinton.

According to a birth certificate filed at the Clinton County Recorder's office, Paddock was born April 9, 1953, to Patrick Benjamin Paddock and Dolores Irene Paddock at the former Jane Lamb Hospital. Both parents' names were aliases, according to published reports.

Patrick was actually Benjamin Paddock, while Dolores was Irene Paddock.

Birth certificates are open record and the county recorder's office is bound to release them upon request. Questions by local residents and social media activity prompted the request.

The certificate states Benjamin as a salesman at the Erectrite Corporation. According to reports, Benjamin Paddock was involved in crime and was once on the FBI Most Wanted list.

Benjamin Paddock's birthplace was Sheboygan, Wisconsin, according to the reports, the same birthplace listed for him on Stephen's birth certificate.

According to an Associated Press report, Benjamin Paddock was in prison again in 1953 for a fraudulent check scam. The 1953 Clinton City Directory does not list the Paddocks as being Clinton residents.

Published reports state Benjamin got out of prison in 1956, and the family moved to Arizona. It's unclear how long the family remained in Clinton at the listed address of 318 16th Ave. South.

The 1953 Clinton City Directory states Howard and Doris Ayers as being the homeowners of that address. By 1956, the home had changed hands, with the directory listing Robert Turner as the home's resident.

The home is no longer there and the land is currently owned by ADM.

Stephen Paddock's attack on Sunday killed 58 and injured nearly 500 people before killing himself at a country music concert on the Las Vegas Strip.
