CLINTON — A Clinton man is facing a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an alleged incident at Main Avenue Pub in Clinton.
Gabriel M. Riojas, 24, 275 28th Ave. North, is charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. Jill Cirivello is appointed to represent Riojas. A preliminary hearing is set for 9:15 a.m. Nov. 21.
According to the affidavit, at 12:50 a.m. Friday, an officer was dispatched to Main Avenue Pub, 115 Main Ave., in reference to an assault that had just occurred. The officer observed the alleged victim had blood coming from the left side of his head and the left side of his face was swollen. The alleged victim told the officer Riojas struck him in the head several times with a pool cue, causing a laceration to his head. The alleged victim stated Riojas attacked him outside the bar because he was upset he was talking to Riojas’ ex-girlfriend.
The affidavit states the officer spoke with a bartender who said there was a fight outside the bar between Riojas and the alleged victim. The bartender stated the two parties were separated and Riojas was told to leave the bar. The bartender stated Riojas re-entered the bar, grabbed a pool cue and struck the alleged victim in the head three times with the pool cue.
The affidavit states Riojas fled the scene before the officer arrived. Riojas was located in the 2800 block of North Second Street. Riojas allegedly admitted to being involved in the fight but said his friend was the one who struck the alleged victim with the pool cue. The injury to the alleged victim’s head was believed to need stitches.
