CLINTON — As a crowd gathered in the cold outside Clinton's Central Fire Station to show respect for fallen firefighter Eric Hosette Sunday afternoon, City Administrator Matt Brooke announced that a second firefighter injured in Saturday's explosion is improving.

"Good news from Iowa City," Brooke wrote in a press release. "Fireman Adam Cain continues to improve. He is now breathing on his own, awake and alert."

Cain was injured while fighting a fire at Clinton's Archer Daniels Midland plant Saturday morning. Material in one of the silo storage bins at the loading facility caused an explosion which injured Cain and killed Hosette.

Cain, 23, was transported to Iowa City.

The fire is under investigation.
