CLINTON — The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center is making many magical moments in May.
At WOW Wednesday you’ll be able to make your own bubble machine. The Great Give Day endowment drive event is on Thursday. Then, make mom feel special at Funtime Friday. Each of these programs is free with regular museum admission or membership.
Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, and is sponsored by US Bank Foundation. It’s bubble time at the Please-Touch-Table and you get to make your own bubble machine.
WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a school break, early out and homeschoolers. WOW Wednesday is drop-in with no pre-registration required – it is an enrichment program with no extra class fee.
Miss Jean is usually here every WOW Wednesday, with her chess, juggling and logic puzzles, however, this week she will be absent. Miss Jean will be back to her regular schedule next week.
Great Give Day
Great Give Day, is Thursday. This online day of giving is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque in cooperation with Clinton’s River Bluff Community Foundation.
Supporters of the Discovery Center are encouraged to help the children’s museum grow their endowment fund. The museum’s endowment fund will support a strong children’s museum, long into the future. Donors can pledge as little as $10, and gifts of $50 or more are eligible for the Endow Iowa Tax Credit. Giving information can be found at GreatGiveDay.org.
A special aspect this year allows your gift to the Felix Alder Children’s Discovery Center Endowment Fund to grow – it will be matched dollar-for-dollar and doubled. This is thanks to $10,000, given by a local anonymous donor, who wants their money used to match donations for local endowment funds. These matching funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. But donors do not have to wait until Great Give Day. You may donate now with early-bird online scheduling at GreatGiveDay.org. Please make your donation early before matching funds are gone.
An endowment fund is important because it is a resource for the future and will support the Discovery Center’s mission of providing a safe and positive environment for families to learn together through play as they discover the world around them.
Friday at 10 a.m. is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. Have fun with a story and make your mom feel special. As always there will be a snack to go along with the theme. This program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although all age children are welcome anytime, especially during school breaks and summer vacations.
On Saturday, May 11, the Discovery Center is holding a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop by and have a look at the great deals in the Discovery Center parking lot. You’ll receive a free admission pass with your purchase. All proceeds will benefit Clinton’s non-profit children’s museum and support our many programs and special events. The Discovery Center is also looking for items to add to the rummage sale. If you would like to donate any item, please contact Andy at (563) 468-7108. He will be happy to to make pickups.
Also on Saturday, May 11, plan to come by and make a beautiful Mother’s Day card for your wonderful mom. A creative, colorful creation station will be available for you from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pizza Ranch Fundraiser Night
On May 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. make your dinner plans at the local Pizza Ranch. This fundraiser is to benefit your local children’s museum. You can dine in, carry-out or drive-through to help the Discovery Center earn 10% of sales. Volunteers from the Discovery Center will be at Pizza Ranch waiting tables, earning tips, and helping you have a fun, friendly evening dinner.
Discovery Center volunteers will bring their brand of fun to the restaurant with face-painting, Kapla blocks, and free Discovery Center coupons. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward educational programs and events at the children’s museum.
Please note that the Discovery Center will be closed May 12 for Mother’s Day and May 26 to observe Memorial Day.
