DEWITT — After numerous requests for concerts, the Clinton County Fair this year is bringing back musical entertainment.
There hasn’t been a concert at the Clinton County Fair since 2011. Due to the lack of attendance at musical events, the Clinton County Fair Board opted for other types of evening entertainment instead, including a tractor pull, demolition derby, truck pull, garden tractor pull and bull riding and barrel racing.
But this year, a member of Blake Shelton’s team on Season 3 of “The Voice” and Spencer native, Casey Muessigmann, will bring his upbeat Midwest attitude to the Clinton County Fair. His concert will be 7 p.m. July 18, according to Muessigmann's website.
Board President Dan Wagener first saw Muessigmann perform last December in Des Moines at the Association of Iowa Fairs annual convention.
“Casey is a talented singer and great entertainer who obviously loves what he’s doing," he said. “Last year the board was able to enlarge the beer garden to include the grandstands, which we believe will increase the potential success of concerts."
Singing in church choirs at a young age, Muessigmann still carries that passion and faith with him to each performance. Since his appearance on “The Voice,” he has focused his energy on writing and co-producing his newest album, “Between the Rows”, and spending time on stage. A seasoned veteran at the age of 27, Muessigmann has shared the stage with the likes of Granger Smith, Joe Diffee, Merle Haggard, Scotty McCreery, Craig Campbell, Randy Houser, Eli Young Band, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton, Lee Brice, Jake Owen, Canaan Smith, Chris Cagle, and Florida Georgia Line.
The fair board hopes this concert is the first of many of concerts at the fair, with plans of obtaining more entertainers in years to come.
“Each year, the board evaluates evening entertainment and strives to provide a variety of entertainment which will bring in the biggest crowds," said Mary Stevenson, board secretary/fair manager. "Attendance at Casey’s concert will determine the future of fair concerts, so if you would like to have concerts at the fair make sure you grab your friends and attend the concert.”
All evening entertainment is included with the fair admission fee. More information on the fair can be found on the fair’s website, www.clintoncountyiowafair.com and Facebook page.
The fair will be July 17 to 21 at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in DeWitt.
