Cain:Injured

CLINTON — An injured Clinton firefighter still is hospitalized in critical condition, but is slowly improving.

Clinton city officials released an update today about injured firefighter Adam Cain's medical condition, which has been listed as critical since the Jan. 5 fire and blast at Clinton's Archer Daniels Midland plant that injured him and killed Clinton Fire Lt. Eric Hosette.

His ventilator was removed Wednesday, and Cain, who is hospitalized at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, is breathing on his own. He is scheduled for surgery on one of his broken arms today. The family asks for continued prayers and thanks everyone for all the support, city officials said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
