CLINTON — Clinton-area residents will only have until the end of the month if they want to shop at the city's Payless ShoeSource location.
The company informed employees recently that the store, located at 2418 Virginia Ave., will be closing at the end of December, one employee confirmed Wednesday. The employee said they were not given a reason for the closing.
Now, the location's storefront is adorned in going-out-of-business sale advertisements and sale announcements in an "Everything must go" fashion.
The news might not necessarily come as a shock, given recent trends with the company's North American decline. In April, the company announced it would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, revealing its intent to close nearly 400 stores around the United States and Puerto Rico.
Other Payless locations across Iowa, including in Davenport and the western city of Carroll, were also previously indicated in the list of store closures.
