Family Chinese New Year Celebration

On Saturday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., celebrate a traditional Chinese New Year at the Discovery Center. This new event is perfect for children and families. The Discovery Center is teaming up with friends from the Pangea International Academy to bring you an insightful and culture-rich experience. You’ll meet students from China who are attending Clinton High School as they share the customs and traditions of Chinese children and their families. This celebration will start off with a roaring traditional dragon dance with a giant dragon puppet operated by eight dancers, accompanied by two drummers. This will lead into demonstrations of a Chinese tea ceremony, a traditional Chinese dance, and Tai Chi. Following the stage exhibitions, families will be invited to explore activity stations, including making a Chinese lantern, making a Fú good fortune plaque, sampling tea and a Chinese treat and photo opportunities with the giant dragon puppet. Adults can inscribe special messages on red packets for their children.

The Discovery Center is located at 332 Eighth Ave. South in downtown Clinton. The center is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 per person ages 2 to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children’s museum.
