CLINTON — Start the cycling season off with the Clinton-area RiverBend Bicycle Club's annual Icicle Bicycle Ride.

This year’s ride is Saturday, March 24, with registration from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration and the ride begin at Happy Joe’s Pizza and Ice Cream Parlor, 408 S. First St. in Clinton. The 28-mile route will take riders along the Clinton riverfront bike trail and over the Mississippi River via the North Bridge. In Illinois, riders will be given the option of travelling north to Thomson, Illinois along the Great River Trail or a more scenic route along the Mississippi River dike, past Fulton’s authentic Dutch windmill, before reaching the Great River Trail.

There will be a SAG stop at the turnaround point at Arnold’s Bike Shop in downtown Thomson, where riders can enjoy refreshments, snacks and a bathroom break. Riders can also check out Thom’s Inn across the street, where you can purchase a Starbucks coffee or an adult beverage.

Upon returning to Happy Joe’s in Clinton, you will be provided with a buffet lunch, get a chance to visit with fellow riders and perhaps win one of the door prizes.

Early registration fee is $20 before March 14. Registration fee from March 15 to March 24 is $25. All of the profits go to the RiverBend Bicycle Club’s Scholarship Fund. Checks and cash only will be accepted the day of the ride.
