CLINTON — The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center is kicking off the school year with these fun activities. On WOW Wednesday, stop in on your early out day, and spend a great afternoon at the museum. Then celebrate Peace Month with Alma Mariano of the Clinton Peace Coalition. Each of these programs is free with museum admission or membership.
Wednesday from 2 p.m. to close is WOW Wednesday, sponsored by US Bank. Squeeze and squish balloons as you try to guess what’s in them. Try to match as many as you can. Also, Miss Jean is here to teach and play chess, teach you how to juggle, and test your skill with an array of logic games. WOW Wednesday is geared for school-aged kids and their families. WOW Wednesday is drop in, with no pre-registration required.
Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. is Funtime Friday, sponsored by the Clinton Kiwanis Club. Learn about Peace Month with Miss Alma as she teaches you to love and respect each other. As always, a snack is included. This favorite program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although all age children are welcome, including older siblings and families who homeschool.
Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Fareway Food Store in Clinton will host a cookout fundraiser to benefit the Discovery Center. Come up to the store, as they will be grilling up lunch and serving it to shoppers on site. Choose from a Fareway hamburger or bratburger for $3. Add chips and a drink for $1 more. Also, businesses can call the Discovery Center to have their lunch delivered by a Discovery Center volunteer. The Discovery Center will receive all the profits and tips.
The Discovery Center will be facepainting at the Clinton MS Walk on Sept. 15.
Back to school also means going back to Wendy’s Fundraiser Nights. During the school year, September through May, every third Monday will be Discovery Center night at Wendy’s in Clinton. Starting Sept. 17, dine in, drive thru, or carry out at Wendy’s from 5 to 7 p.m. and they’ll donate 10 percent to the Discovery Center.
The Discovery Center is open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 12:30 to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 per person ages 2 to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children’s museum.
