Making room

KT Masonry and Beckwith Commercial Roofing work on the exterior of the Lyons fire station addition Tuesday. Fire Station No. 3 at 2311 Roosevelt St. was built in 1914. At the time, horses and wagons were used to transport fire equipment. The addition, which will cost the city almost $600,000, will better hold the heavier trucks in use today, according to officials. The addition will also have a kitchen and dayroom, allowing the department to use the current small kitchen for office space and the current dayroom on the second floor as a weight room.
