SAVANNA, Ill. — State Rep. Tony McCombie, R-Savanna, has announced the winners of her 2019 spring photo contest.
“Congratulations to Karen Miles and Scott Wolfe on your winning photos. I love the 71st District, and truly believe we have the most beautiful landscape and wonderful people,” said McCombie. “I enjoyed looking through all the photos that were submitted this spring for our second photo contest. I love showing off the people and places of the 71st District, so these will be a great addition to the office.”
Dozens of photos from across the district were submitted to the contest. The winning photo from each category (one of People and another of Places) will be displayed in her Savanna and Springfield offices.
Miles, of Lyndon, Illinois, took the winning photo of Ellsworth Creek in the Places category. She paddled upstream on her kayak to the creek off the Rock River, between Lyndon and Prophetstown in order to get this shot. It was taken in early June during a brief period in between floods when the water level was down.
Wolfe, of Savanna, took the winning photo in the People category of the "Sandbaggers from Savanna." This photo highlights just a few of the almost 200 West Carroll High School students, along with many other groups and individuals, who volunteered their time to assist the Savanna Fire Department’s sandbagging efforts during flood season. When this wall was completed several days later, the Mississippi floodwaters would continue to rise another 20 inches.
