Chad Seely is the Store Director of Clinton’s Hy-Vee, located at 901 S. Fourth St. With more than 30 years under his belt with Hy-Vee, find out more about Seely in this week’s Meet Your Neighbor column.
How long haveyou been withHy-Vee as anorganization, and how long have you been in Clinton?
I personally have been with Hy-Vee for 32 years, and have been the Store Director here in Clinton for four of those years. I came from Cedar Rapids to take the position and I’ve loved every minute of it.
What was the move like from CedarRapids to Clinton? What was yourfirst impression?
The first thing I immediately noticed about Clinton was how great its people were. The people here go out of their way to help you when you need it. That was my first thought. But it only got better. Clinton has great scenery with the river, and natural backdrops. Just the sense of ‘community’ you get when you come to Clinton is what stands out to me.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced asClinton’s StoreDirector?
For me, there are lots of challenges that I can recall, but the biggest one is always trying to maintain that work/life balance. The reality is, is that this job demands a lot of my attention. But I obviously love my family very much, so I try as hard as I can to maintain that steady balance. It’s not easy, but I think it’s so important to remember.
What makesthose challenges and struggles worth it at theend of the day?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing people reach goals that they’ve set for themselves, and being able to help them reach those goals. Then on top of that, Hy-Vee is all about service, and making the lives of the community more convenient. So to be able to serve people, not only our customers but also my employees, that’s what makes the job worth it.
