MercyOne Clinton Foundation awards scholarships

CLINTON – Anyone who’s ever wondered whether bariatric surgery for weight loss is an option may attend a free community program called “Bariatric Surgery 101” Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

MercyOne surgeon Amareshwar Chiruvella will present two free community programs, Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. Both presentations will be in the MercyOne Clinton Medical Center lower-level conference room A, 1410 N. Fourth St. in Clinton.

Chiruvella will discuss bariatric procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass, which patients qualify for bariatric surgery and outcomes to expect from these procedures, MercyOne said in announcing the programs.

Done laparoscopically, or in a minimally invasive manner, these procedures can eliminate or decrease medications needed for high blood pressure and diabetes and have helped numerous people achieve their weight loss goals and lead a healthier life, MercyOne said.

Chiruvella is fellowship trained in advanced gastrointestinal, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. For more information and to reserve a seat, call the MercyOne Clinton Specialty Clinic at 563-244-5900.
