MLK Peace and Justice Award nominations accepted through today

CLINTON — Each year, Clinton’s MLK Committee awards the Peace and Justice Award to an individual or organization whose work in the community honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of non-violence, equality, justice and peace.

This will be the 17th year that the MLK Peace and Justice Award will be presented at Clinton’s annual MLK Celebration in January. Undoubtedly, there are many in this community who share King’s vision and would be deserving of the 17th Annual MLK Peace and Justice Award. Clinton’s MLK Committee encourages you, or a group with which you may be affiliated, to nominate someone you feel is deserving of this award.

Those wishing to nominate either an individual or an organization for the MLK Peace and Justice Award may download a Peace and Justice Award nomination form from the Events page of the YWCA website at or pick one up at the YWCA front desk.

Nomination forms must be submitted by today, with voting by the MLK Celebration Committee scheduled for Dec. 10. Contact Mardell Mommsen-Flippen at (563) 244-7006 if you have any questions.

This coming January will mark the 31st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. This year’s celebration will begin at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Clinton Community College. A complimentary meal will be served from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. followed by celebratory performances by local individuals and organizations and a civil rights march reenactment through CCC’s halls.
