CLINTON — Pizza Ranch of Clinton is helping to feed local families during winter break.
The Clinton location is participating in 12 Days of Pizza, which was started in 2015 by Pizza Ranch Rapid City, Black Hills Community Bank and South Dakota native and film producer Sean Covel. The program gives 12 families one large pizza or one eight-piece box of chicken per day for 12 days.
Covel came up with the idea after one of his friends, a second-grade teacher, mentioned how students who depended on existing programs that provide free or reduced price meals during the school year needed a supplemental program during winter break.
Lori Halligan of Clinton Pizza Ranch says that certificates have been distributed in schools throughout the area. She made phone calls to principals and guidance counselors at the schools and they helped find students and families who need the meals.
"I don't know who the children are. It is anonymous," Lori said of the recipients. "All we know is that through those principals and guidance counselors, our certificates are helping local families."
